CMDB Workshop

CMDB Workshop

Yesterday, I attended a very insightful CMDB workshop hosted by ServiceNow.

Lots of key takeaways.

But one particular takeaway that stuck with me most is this one:

Don't do CMDB for the sake of doing CMDB. Don’t create or push new classes or data because you want to. Define correctly what the customer needs to measure and use OOTB classes as much as possible to store data.

This is precisely the reason why so many CMDB projects fail. They fail due to over-engineering, lack of clarity, or misalignment with the business goals. A CMDB should not be a data dump, but a strategic asset that enables better decision-making, service delivery, and risk management.

Definitely an inspiring workshop.

Maybe I should go on becoming a CMDB expert 🤔

Stay tuned for more key insights about this workshop and CMDB in general on my next blogs.
